C-47 accidents in Argentina

On 15Jul38, the DC-3-228 N18114, owned by Pan American cn. 1990, was destroyed after take off, hitting a building, in Morón Airport, Argentina. The plane was carrying 13 persons aboard.

Existing reports indicate, that in 1949, the Aviación Naval Argentina, lost the C-47-40-DL 0260/2-Gt-19 cn. 9899.

The Aerolíneas Argentinas´s C-47A-1-DK LV-ACL cn. 12020, was damaged in Ezeiza on 26Jul50. The register was canceled, and the aircraft was probably scrapped.

On 29Dic50, the Douglas C-47A-20-DK LV-ACH cn. 13027 operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, was destroyed a few minutes after take off from Aeroparque Camet, Mar del Plata. The accident was at 22.50 hrs. A policeman that was driving on the route nº 2, on his way to Cobo city (Km.377) saw a plane losing altitude, searching for a place to land. Finally before it fell to the ground the plane exploded. The Official register said, that the plane was destroyed near Cobo, about 60MN from Mar del Plata, where the plane was coming in route to Buenos Aires, 17 people died with one survivor.

On 26Mar51, the Douglas C-47A-5-DK LV-ACY cn. 12291 owned by Aerolíneas Argentinas, crashed , during landing in Ushuaia. Eleven persons died in the accident, and four persons injured.

On 03Jun51, the Douglas C-47A-85-DL LV-AGE cn. 20083 operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, was flying a regular flight over a patagonic route, carrying 15 passengers and 4 crew members. The accident was during the landing in Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz. As result of the accident the plane suffered serious damage and the fire was controlled. All the occupant's were safe.

On 21Jun51 the Douglas C-47B-35-DL, LV-ADG cn. 16682/33430 owned by Aerolíneas Argentinas hit a truck when it was landing in Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz. Although the plane made a go-a-round and went to Comodoro Rivadavia with an engine in flames. The machine carried on 9 passenger's and 4 crew members.

On 18Mar52, a Douglas C-47A-5-DK cn . 12246 LV-ACN owned by Aerolíneas Argentinas, suffered damage, about 15% of the structure, meanwhile made a force landing in Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos, with on 16 passenger's a board. The accident began with an engine fire in the middle of a big storm, that caused the aircraft to veer off the runway.

On 13Feb53, a C-47A-5-DK LV-ACX cn. 12387 operating by Aerolíneas Argentinas, suffered damages below the 50% of the structure, when it was landing in Trelew, with the landing gear retracted. The aircraft slid off from the runway, creating fire in one of its engines. The plane was repaired and returned to service.

On 17Oct53, the C47A-25-DK LV-ACE cn. 13373, owned by Aerolíneas Argentinas, suffered damages about 35%, during a landing with the rear wheel unlocked. This situation, made the aircraft run off the runway, and hit a small elevation of the ground.

On 23Abr54, at 21.36 hrs., C-47A-5-DK LV-ACX cn. 12387 operating by Aerolíneas Argentinas, crashed in Sierras de Vilgo. The plane was making a regular flight between Mendoza to Córdoba, 4 crew members and 21 passenger's, died in the accident.

On 20May55, the Douglas C47A-20-DK LV-ACQ cn. 13159 operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, received about 80% damage, while trying to take off from the Río Chico, airfield, Santa Cruz. The plane was making a pure cargo flight. And fell near the airfield, after abort the takeoff. Both pilots resulted safe.

On 16Jul56, the Douglas C47A-25-DK LV-ACD cn. 13328, owned by Aerolíneas Argentinas, crashed while landing in Río Cuarto, Córdoba. In the accident 18 people died.

On 15May59, the Aerolíneas Argentinas´s Douglas C-47A-80-DL cn. 19790 LV-AFW, crashed early after take off from Aeroparque Camet, Mar del Plata. In the accident 10 people died.

The Aerolíneas Argentinas´s, C-47A-30-DL LV-ACM cn. 9490, crashed in Santiago del Estero on 14Jul59.

On 09Ene64 the Douglas 14713/26158 C-47B-5-DK LV-FYJ owed by Aerotransportes Litoral Argentino, was destroy, after it crashed near Zarate; Buenos Aires. The plane was flying from Rosario, where takeoff was at 09.01hs. It ´had an altitude of 1200m. But by a big turbulence, the crew went up to 1.800m, and after to 2400m. At 09.43hs, the pilot informed that ´they had fire in the cabin, and they planed to made a force landing in Zarate'. The plane never arrived at Zarate and was seen, trying to land over a area, 9km far from Zarate. The C-47, hit the ground with the landing gear, and the left wing, beginning to destroy of it. Soon the fire caught the fuselage. Inside the plane were 30 occupant's, 27 passenger's and 3 crew members, but only 2 passenger's.survived (ICAO Aircraft Accident Digest No.16, Circular 82- AN/69 (6-9).

The C-47A-10-DL, TA-33 cn. 9254, owned by the Fuerza Aérea Argentina, was destroyed in the Antarctica Base while it was trying to take off, with the help of JATOS rockets, on 10Dec64

On 05May68 The Fuerza Aérea Argentina´s C-47A-30-DK, TC-28 cn. 13783/25228 was destroy near Río Cuarto, Córdoba, while attempting to land in Taller Regional Las Higueras, (Rio Cuarto AFB). When the plane hit the ground, it caught fire, eleven occupant's 5 crew members and 6 passenger's died in the crash. The machine was operated by the Commando en Jefe de la Fuerza Aérea Argentina. And was departing from Aeroparque, Buenos Aires. (La Prensa Martes 06May69)

The C-47 TC-17 crashed in Oncativo, when it was taking off on 10May70. The plane received serious damage.
